Key takeaways from the July 2026 issue:
Fuel price volatility remains a concern. Beyond the direct impact of higher fuel prices on consumer prices, oil is a major input to most production processes, and the longer those prices remain elevated, the more likely producers are to pass them along. At least so far, however, higher oil prices haven’t suppressed consumer spending and the U.S. economy appears on track to grow throughout the remainder of 2026, with recession unlikely.
- Inflation slowed dramatically in June but will likely accelerate in July.
- Restaurant spending rose at a healthy pace through the first half of 2026.
- Menu price increases continue to slow.
