Meet the Faculty:

Jared Harris
Samuel L. Slover Research Chair and Associate Professor of Business Administration
- Expertise: Jared Harris specializes in the intersection of ethics and strategy, particularly in corporate governance, business ethics, and interorganizational trust.
- Recognition: His research has earned awards and been featured in major publications like The New York Times and The New Yorker.
- Teaching: He teaches ethics and strategy courses at the Darden School of Business, including MBA and doctoral level courses.
- Experience: He has practical experience as a CPA and consultant for accounting firms, held a CFO position, and now consults with financial services companies.

Jim Detert
John L. Colley Professor of Business Administration
- Expertise: Jim Detert specializes in workplace courage, voice, ethical decision-making, and leadership.
- Teaching: He is an award-winning professor at Darden, teaching leadership and ethics to MBA and executive students, and has designed leadership programs used globally.
- Research: His research has been published in top academic journals and featured in popular outlets like Harvard Business Review and Sloan Management Review. He is also the author of Choosing Courage: The Everyday Guide to Being Brave at Work.
- Experience: Detert has consulted with a variety of organizations, including those in the technology, service, and public sectors.

Marc Modica
Senior Lecturer in Business Administration
- Expertise: Marc Modica specializes in negotiation, communications, and conflict management, with a focus on international business.
- Global Focus: He has extensive international teaching and consulting experience, working with clients in countries across Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
- Teaching: He teaches in Darden’s MBA, Executive MBA, and Executive Education programs, and also contributes to programs in other University of Virginia schools.
- Experience: Prior to Darden, he held teaching and leadership positions at the International University of Japan, the University of Washington, and the University of Hawaii.

Justin Hopkins
J. Harvie Wilkinson Jr. Associate Professor of Business Administration
- Research: Hopkins’ work on the effects of regulation on financial reporting has been published in top academic journals like Contemporary Accounting Research and Management Science.
- Teaching: He teaches accounting at Darden, including courses on financial reporting and financial statement analysis, and has also taught at UVA Law School.
- Presentations: Hopkins has been invited to present his research at prestigious institutions like the SEC, Harvard Business School, and Wharton.
- Experience: He has practical experience as an auditor for Ernst & Young, a consultant for the Justice Department and Asian Development Bank, and a Peace Corps volunteer.

Gabrielle (Gabe) Adams
Associate Professor of Public Policy and Business Administration and, by Courtesy, Psychology (Social)
- Bridging Disciplines: Professor Gabrielle (Gabe) Adams holds a unique joint appointment in Public Policy and Business Administration, bringing an interdisciplinary perspective to her research and teaching. This allows her to examine organizational challenges through multiple lenses, providing students with a richer understanding of leadership, decision-making, and organizational behavior.
- Focus on “Psychological Inefficiencies”: Professor Adams’s research delves into the fascinating world of “psychological inefficiencies” – the hidden factors that hinder effective communication, sound decision-making, and conflict resolution. Roshni Raveendhran
Assistant Professor of Business Administration
- Future of Work Expert: Professor Roshni Raveendhran’s research explores the dynamic intersection of technology, organizations, and the workforce. She investigates how emerging technologies are reshaping work practices and offers insights into how organizations can leverage these advancements for positive impact.
- Published in Leading Academic and Practitioner Outlets: Professor Raveendhran’s work has appeared in top-tier academic journals like Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes and practitioner-focused publications like Harvard Business Review and MIT Sloan Management Review. Her research has also been widely featured in major media outlets such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Financial Times.
- Award-Winning Researcher and Teacher: Professor Raveendhran is a recognized scholar and educator. Dan Murphy
Jung Family Associate Professor of Business Administration
- Macroeconomic Expert: Professor Daniel Murphy specializes in macroeconomics, with a focus on understanding the forces that drive economic fluctuations, unemployment, and growth. His research provides valuable insights into how government policies can influence these critical economic outcomes.
- Government Spending and Economic Slack: A key area of Professor Murphy’s research examines the role of government spending in stimulating economic activity. His work highlights the importance of addressing “economic slack” – underutilized resources in the economy – to promote growth and reduce unemployment.
- Developing Optimal Policy Solutions: Professor Murphy uses his research to inform the design of effective macroeconomic policies. He is currently working on developing strategies to combat recessions while minimizing the accumulation of government debt.
- Commitment to Public Service: Prior to his academic career, Professor Murphy demonstrated his dedication to public service through his work as a National Hunger Fellow and a research associate at the Urban Institute, focusing on issues related to poverty and economic inequality.
